Via del Vascello 35, Rome
On Monday, June 3, 2019 at 6 p.m., the Fondazione Baruchello headquarters at Via del Vascello 35 will host the presentation of the volume Abbecedario del reale (Primer of reality), edited by Felice Cimatti (professor of Philosophy of Language at the University of Calabria) and Alex Pagliardini (ALIPSI psychoanalyst), and published by Quodlibet Studio. Together with the two curators, Edoardo Albinati (Italian writer, translator and screenwriter), Daniela Angelucci (lecturer in Aesthetics at the University of Roma Tre), Gianfranco Baruchello (artist), Manuela Fraire (psychoanalyst), Stefania Napolitano (psychoanalyst), Cesare Pietroiusti (artist), and Carla Subrizi (art historian and lecturer in art history at the University of Rome La Sapienza), will discuss the book.
“It is evident that the things of the human world are things of a universe structured in the form of words, and that language, symbolic processes, dominate, govern everything.” The paradox of the real is in this statement, removed but no less relevant, by Jacques Lacan (Seminar VII). The real of the world (as the world is), despite all our desire for realism, is precluded to us, because the world already appears to us to be forever entangled in our own pointing to it and saying it, starting with this presumptuous determinative article that already seems to tell us everything, e.g., that it is the world. How to get, then, to the real of the world? There is only one way, to get there, to try (failing) to get there. Sink all the way down into that same language that moreover prevents us from touching the real. The book – written by philosophers, psychoanalysts, writers, poets, and artists – tries to show this paradox, that of those who, inside language, point to something “outside the world.” A possible journey, from Action to Zero, of some of the ways out of ourselves, and thus out of language, but without ever abandoning it.
